to start this off, here are my answers.
1. downloaded the demo in August '98, bought the full version a month later.
2. Win XP
3. Logitech MOMO wheel. I bought the MadCatz Andretti wheel in October '99, used it up until a year ago when the position potentiometer seized up, chewing up some other components. I hope to get the MadCatz wheel fixed sometime, and I'll sell the MOMO.
4. Windy.exe version of CART Racing, with the 35-gallon fuel tank modification, using the Windows 95 compatibility mode for win XP. I've downloaded the LED-style dashboards in the past, but not currently using one. I also have DOS CART (CR.EXE) installed; I like how it has a fullscreen replay viewer, and prefer its "drivers info" screen to view carsets.
5. not currently
6. WinMip, Cowtown Carset Manager, Horizons, SETOPTNS.EXE.
7. no
8. no
9. Red Rock, N99 Watkins Glen, Updated Road America
10. Norisring, Toronto '96
11. Night Atlanta, Indianapolis, Chicagoland
12. not regularly
13. undecided
14. played RFactor infrequently.. doesn't work with my new graphics card

1. How long have you been playing IndyCar Racing 2/Cart Racing ("ICR2")
Started playing ICR2 right after buying it from a Wal-Mart in Tuscaloosa, AL in '96.
2. What operating system are you running?
I might be the only guy on the board who's running ICR2 on a Mac!! I can run it in OS 9 without any trouble. Running under OS X has been more difficult - but I'm working on it...
3. Which controller do you use to play the game with (Joystick/Wheel/Keyboard)
Still using an old Thrustmaster T2 to race with.
4. Which version of the program are you running? (Windows/DOS/DOS with VDMS/Rendition/Other) Has the game been modified in any way?
Mac version 1.0.1.
5. Do you use a customized player car? If so, who's your sponsor?
Yes - Planters Peanuts!! Long story coming...
Back when I was racing in an ICR2, I had a teammate offer to paint a car for me. My hometown has a peanut processing plant, and the area is known for peanut farming, so I wanted something related to that. Within a week, he had painted a sweet light-blue Planters car that I still run today.
6. List any utilities you have used to modify tracks, cars, or the game itself.
Just a Hex editor to get all of those nice Windows ICR2 carsets working on the Mac side of the house...
7. Do you compete in IIRS or another series?
I used to compete in, and eventually run, the old MacRacing ICR2 series. Competed from '97-'04, ran it from '99 on.
8. Have you ever played ICR2 multiplayer?
Just once! But it was a blast. Connected with my MacRacing teammate at the time (who was living in New Hampshire) via modem. Back in the day when 28.8 was fast! We had a hard time keeping the connection working, but we were able to run a couple of laps at Sears Point together.
9. Favorite ICR2 road courses (pick 3)
Tough question... Road America, Desert Winds, and Bull Run 2K.
10. Favorite ICR2 street circuits (pick 3)
Long Beach, Toronto, and Vancouver (with Norisring a VERY close 4th).
11. Favorite ICR2 oval tracks (pick 3)
Indy, Nazareth, and Milwaukee.
12. Do you ever use carsets based on the 2005 season, or earlier?
Yes.
13. Whats your favorite carset?
A GTP carset created by a friend from the MacRacing league for a 6-hour team endurance race that divided the field into faster prototypes and slower GTs. All of the cars had the same body shape, but the GTs had a different color of brakelights. And the prototypes were VERY fast! Normal settings of strength would put me between 7th and 10th overall. Lots of fun.
14. Do you play any other open-wheel driving games?
VGP2 and VGP3, but only sparingly.
15. Any other comments?
I have to thank two groups of people - the guys who put ICR2 together back in the day, and the folks who continue to produce such fantastic material for it. The original developers made a game that has really stood up well with time. Even my six-year-old son likes it! And the mod community has added so much more to ICR2 than I could have ever imagined back in '97. Kudos to all of you!
