Racing under wet
#1
Hi!
Maybe someone tried it before me, but I found way how to race under wet with ICR2.
Rain option exist in Indycar.exe but cannot be selected from the game. So what I have done? I opened GAMEOPT.CFG file with Hexeditor and found position which turns on rain (picture 1, marked yellow): 00 - dry, 01 - rain.

Change it to 01. When random weather is turned on game can only variate temperature, wind direction and wind speed. So constant weather must be selected with rain option.
When rain option is on tires grip is redused (according to the last four values in THEAT, TCFF, TCFR in TRACK.TXT) and AI become slower (and make mistakes). So you can race with AI under "wet conditions", but for qualify BLAP parameter is still used so AI will drive slowly but time will be like in dry condition.
Now we need rain tyres. Rain tyres cannot be selected from the game. So you can set them with Hexeditor. Made setup and call it RAIN or like you want. Open this setup with Hexeditor and find positions of tires compound (picture2, marked yellow ).

00 - soft
01 - medium
02 - hard
03 - rain
So enter 03 on corresponding positions. Now you will have rain tires. But rain tires still cannot be selected from the game so dont change tires compound in the garage.

PROBLEM:
I test only DOS version of the game. Rain option only works with INDYCAR.EXE vers 1.0.0!!!! With exe vers 1.0.2 AI cars are slow but tire grip isn't reduced for player.

If you don't want to use Hexeditor you can try my GAMEOPTS.CFG and RAIN.STG. Make backup of your gameopts.cfg, place my file in your main folder, run the game and change options like you want except weather must be constant (default carset is CARS95). Copy RAIN.STG to the track folder you want to drive, in the garage change setups like you want except tires compound.

That's all!
Be careful on wet surface!

Cool! This could also be explored further as a way of simulating GT/Touring speeds and grip.

Wow, nice job finding that out. I knew about the rain tires and had already posted about that some time in the past but that you can actually have the game in rain mode is completely new to me. What a shame it only really works in the 1.0.0 DOS version. But still a lot of fun to experiment with this so thanks !

I realize this is an old thread, but digging around the .dat files I noticed that the rainy palette was left in several of the tracks. So this is what rain looks like at Mid-Ohio (by replacing sunny.pcx with rain.pcx). Basically the track and sky look darker, kind of how it was in ICR1.

man- that's awesome. I remember one time racing at portland in the wet when I was a kid. I wish we could figure out how to mod the game to put the rain back in.

Also I notice you are driving a red car with goodyear tires.... is that my 89 carset by chance?

Yep, that's your '89 carset. I've been using it to experiment with .dat and .mip editing.
