The parts like the car body for cockpit view are still what it was previously. I tried to simply apply the 3do from the carfile I was editing, but seemed to not work as intended, and applied a different livery.

Yeah that was obvious it was the next question.

I use the "reynard paintkit" which is made to suck the colors for the 3do out of an image, but it's specific for the carset I use. I would think if you have a different carshape you can edit the 3do directly in a hex editor. I don't think 3doed will do it since the carset 3do's are just referencing indycar.3do?

Pavel / SK what do you guys think?

First of all don't use ingame PaintKit to change 3do colors for advanced carshapes. It will mess some colors like shadow, suspension arms, rear wing arms. You need Reynard 99 Paintkit for such carsets.

Process is smple. You extract car 3do files, run 3DO2PCX.EXE to convert 3do to pcx, then set colors for carbody in pcx and convert pcx back to 3do with PCX23DO.EXE. Be aware, don't change palette in this pcx file. You can use colors only from palette.

This is the .pcx template the program uses for the 3do colors (sorry, this one is already painted, I don't seem to have the raw template anymore). Use your flood fill tool to paint the small squares the color of the panels. Icr2mgr reads the central pixel of the squares to use for the building the 3do file for the car. This image is obviously for the Reynard carshape, you may have to tweak some of them a bit for other shapes. After you've changed the colors, be sure to rename it to match the .bmp.

[I guess we can't post .pcx files so I converted this to .bmp. Download it and re-save it as a .pcx and rename it to match the car filename. You should maybe re-apply the palette just to be on the safe side after type converting back and forth.]
