Second Wind Random crashes
#1
Newbie here just bought my first racing wheel and I'm loving the game. I remember first playing it when I went to the Molson Indy in Toronto in 95 They had a pavilion set up, anyways.

I have an issue that second wind will crash randomly. funny enough always on the rare times I'm not blowing my engine or causing mass chaos on track lol.  Is this the program itself or something I did?

anyways thanks for the help

It would be good to know which tracks this is happening on. Are you having the same instability issues on the default tracks and carset?

Second Wind is reasonably stable for me, although the dash artifacts I get can get a little annoying at times. I had a crash yesterday on the scratchbuilt Denver track, but that may have just been a glitch in the track itself.

Although Second Wind is definitely a great development, the person who made it is not active here, unfortunately.

Ive found the Windy version of ICR2 is more unstable on my system than the dos versions. For Windy I make sure to restart the game before a race, never use Shift+R and not to exit and renter the driving window. If i do that its less likely to crash but still sometimes it will. I don't think its anything to do with Secondwind

I do use shift R a lot so I'll make sure not too, and reset before a Race.

I download pavals updated Australia track 95 layout. the one with the left, right left chicane. Been playing Australia a lot since I am going through the season and want to practice each track. I will test a default track and see.

The game does stutter and drops a noticeable FPS dip just before it freezes and crashes. SO one thing That I have found work rather well  when that happens is press escape back to the menu. So far it has worked rather well. plus im pretty sure pressing Shift R is what's causing it.

Thanks for sharing your experience and tips.

Today - while testing Wolf_PD's scratchbuilt Le Mans track - I had another weird problem where my mirrors froze up. Going to the F10 outside view and then back again fixed it.

Who knows, maybe those are all problems that were in the original Windy as well. But I did run that for quite a number of years without too many issues.

I never had such problem with original Windy. But latest SecondWind versions has '3d' mirrors so you can't compare it performance with clean Windy version.

Ah yes of course. And they sure look great when they are working. Maybe some problems might occur on this version on memory intensive tracks and carsets. Anyway, this was the first time that I noticed it and it was easily fixed.

I haven't had it crash on me since not using Shift -R. every once and a while it will drop some FPS but going back in the menu does seem fix the problem.  when testing and using Shit-R to reset a race(I crash a lot opening lap lol) the game does become more unstable and will drop Frame rate and crash. Going into the menu does help, but it's best as Jake said Not to even touch SHift-R.

I do love how much easier secondwind is for me to use, not only modding but just overall accessibility.
