windy on windows 11 question
#1
new laptop and i finally got my game back.  previously i had been playing on an old xp machine so i didn't really have to worry about this.  but i'm finally after all these years playing through windy instead of the dos version.  so i don't know if this is typical.  i hope it isn't and if it's not i need help.

this is the game window, and you can see the top window bar is blocking the space that takes place in game.  i'm running this in xp service pack 3 compatibility mode with 8 bit color.  any way to get rid of that bar or at least shift the game window down enough so that it's not blocking information?

also, how do i get the paintkit working through the paintshop?

Hi,
I think problem is with game window size. 8 bit color mode is not needed but it's better to select 'run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' mode and 'disable display scaling on high DPI settings'.

Paintkit requires in compatibility 256 color mode setting. But Pantkit is useless with any advanced carsets. Painkit only supports defauld carshape and all advanced carsets will not load there. So it's better to use WinMip to extract car skins and paint them with external program.

You'll need dgVoodoo and some finagling to get it to work well: https://www.icr2.net/forum/showthread.php?tid=1381

I wasn't able to get Windy to launch on my Windows 11 at all actually. When I double-click the EXE nothing happens, looking into process explorer it says it ends immediately.

I tried all the different compatibility modes and settings but wasn't able to get it to load

Worked on Windows 10!

believe it or not but i have never been interested in any of the advanced cars.  i've always been a cars95 (and various car edits of that) guy.

Hi ctkatz
I got a new Win11 laptop earlier this year. It's a HP Victus. Windy runs perfectly on it. Secret for me is to set Windows screen resolution to lowest value (800*600), deselect "use direct draw" in "advanced" tab of graphic options, and to select "Windows XP (service pack 2)" in windy.exe properties compatibility tab. I don't need to select any of the other options on this tab. I looked at your photo in 1st post and remember I had the same issue when I 1st fired windy up on this pc. The problem has gone now. I don't remember which change fixed it. But try all of the ones I've mentioned here and see how they go.

The one issue I have with windy is that sometimes, on starting the game, the intro video will get stuck. I esc out of it, or just let it sort itself out. After that, it doesn't happen again in same session.

Hope this helps,

I saw only 1.0.1 version of windy.exe. Latest release of Cart Racing from All American Sports Series by Sierra (1998) has Windy version 1.0.1 inside so I don't think there was any other releases.
