Possible to change field size between races?

I’d like to change the field from  smaller ones in the early season and then to 33 for the 500, but once you’ve started a championship it appears you are locked into a field size. Is there anything I could change in the save files to change this or does one of the utilities allow this?

Set the opponents number in your championship to maximum.
You can change the maximum number of cars on each track in the track.txt file. Go into the folder of the track in the tracks folder. Open the track.txt file ('track' is the name of the folder), and change the numbers in the CARS line.

You have to set grid size for each track in track.txt before championship. Then in championship settings you set maximum number of opponents 33.

original game only has 32 cars though, not 33

you will need to make the carset bigger, which is possible however I have never tried this myself

Thanks. I'm okay with 32, at least feels like the full 500 field.
