Mario Andretti in ICR1 demo
#1
Check out the "official" Mario Andretti car that was included in the ICR1 demo, but removed due to licensing issues. GPLaps was able to extract this from the ICR1 demo that RaceSimCentral posted. Full Twitter thread here.

Yes, I saw this demo posted on RaceSimCentral. I also thought to extract this car from demo and replace fictional 'Mario Andretti' with real one in default icr1 carset Smiley But decided that there is no reason to have only one Newman-Haas car.

In many ways ICR1 was better than ICR2.  I miss:

The better designed "view drivers"
How the car images showed up when you loaded the standings during a race
how the shifter moved in cockpit

I do love that we can pretty much blow off any licensing crap and make real carsets with real drivers.. I don't know if the games are like that today, but I wouldn't want to play a game that I couldn't create my own content for.

Agree. ICR2 took a step back in some other respects - fewer chassis options, no Buick engine. No rain.

There was a much celebrated release of old CART cars for Automobilista 2 recently (with fictional liveries loosely based on the actual CART seasons) but one issue it has is that it is not easily modded. Apparently you can change liveries but not the car models so you're kind of stuck with the "built-in" number of Lolas and Reynards (and no Penskes) that the default carset has. I think helmets are not changeable either. For me, it really breaks immersion if I am racing against fictional drivers or if there's something slightly off (like a '95 Penske car that is on a Reynard chassis, for example). In contrast, ICR2 really gives you total freedom to make it as accurate as you want, if you want to simulate a particular season or race.
