Rendition card

A very long time ago I had a computer with the rendition card. The graphics were really something, I even had full details in the mirrors if I remember correctly.
Unfortunately that computer is long gone.

Lots happening with the Rendition wrapper: https://community.racesimcentral.net/thr...ence.1837/
You can try an alpha version now. Still has a lot of issues but it’s incredible to see ICR2 in full HD

looks cool - if they ever get it working to the point it's plug and play with all of our custom work I would jump on it.

Rendition wrapper with Nashville mod

I have been playing around with the Rendition version and latest Alpha wrapper and it really is impressive!
With the default carset/tracks it works really well and with the latest updates it seems fairly stable/playable. I recorded a short video of doing some laps at Michigan with a full field: https://youtu.be/ApCxuHBKY_8 The issues come with trying to use our mods. I am able to get carsets to load using the default shape, or using the Cart2k shape. But any carset using the high-poly lola/reynard shapes with custom painted helmets do not load and give an "invalid carset" error when trying to load as if a 3do file is missing in them. Tracks as well have a lot of issues. Most addon tracks do not load at all and give a 'Insufficient memory' error. I tried most of the tracks I have been playing with for the 89/90 season, and a couple of them did load. So it is not something that affects all addon tracks, but most have this error. Pavel's Mid-Ohio was one of the few that loaded and it looks really nice. There are some mips which are corrupted though on the walls. But otherwise i think this gives a glimpse of how great this sim could look! https://youtu.be/fWMsukX4WxA I will keep testing this to see if I can figure out what the issues with carsets/tracks might be. I hope some others try as well

Jake, thank you for feedback! That is what I always want to know abou Renditiona version an it capabilities.
If you say you can load oroginal carsets and cart2k carsets but have problem with more advanced carsets then problem may be with car mip resolution. Because I doubt that high poly 3do can cause any problem. So for test you can try to take any high-poly carset (but with 32 cars, not extended to 39) and replace all car mips there with one from original papy cars95.dat. Textures should look strange on cars but we can test if carshape can be loaded by rendition game. With tracks I think problem is the same - textures resolution. I fear problem with rendition is the same as with nascar 2 and 3dfx where textures wider or highere than 256 pixels have problems. Form Mid Ohio video you've posted I see that problem is with wall texture that is 1024 pixels wide (1024x16). But in the same time horizon texture that is 1600 pixels in height (64x1600) loaded without problem. So maybe there are some limitation texture size?... Also it may be good to know where this or any other limitations come form: rendition indyacr.exe or rendition wrapper. Maybe wrapper developer can say exactly what limitation his wrapper has so we can adjust our track to suit rendition game. Because working 3d mirrors are awesome

If texture resolution is going to be a problem than I doubt any of my tracks will work. Denver and both Long Beach tracks are loaded with them. Hopefully this will get worked out.

By replacing the mips with a carset that works the sets with the more complex model do load. So maybe it is an issue with the size of the mip files. I did provide Sharangad with your Mid Ohio and he said he would look as to why the wall mips appear messed up. So maybe it is a feature he can add to the wrapper to support these. |
