Yes I saw that and was going to do it but I looked at the instructions and it seemed more work to do it that way compared to making just the little change I wanted.

You can put the .pcx image underneath your work (8bit gray level) and fine tune it with SGE .ini.

Also when reconnecting 2 parts or filing a hole, always connect from "trunk to hood/bonnet" otherwise you'll reverse the track (clicking next section show the path of the cars).

Yes I learned that the hard way last night.

So, I took some measurements on google maps, and I think the track is between 39ft, and 35ft wide in the spots that still exist. I have to use SFE to make sure the width is right, correct?

Also....

I printed out a paper copy of the track and watched the youtube coverage... I see where I need curbs (I drew them in with a marker where I want them). Checkpoint10, I looked at your SFE file for rio just to see how you did it, it looks like where you put curbs, the curb is the entire length of the section on the corner inside. On tamiami I think it will be more difficult because some of the corners have curbs on the outsides at the entrance to the corner or on the exit way out. Does this mean I need to have a different section for each of these? If I want to extend the pit apron part of the way down the straight after turn-1, I will also need to make a section for this as well correct?

Here is the way this track is currently, which I think will not work with the changes to the pit lane exit and the curbs on the outside entrance to turn 2.....

From how I understand it, I will need to make this ONE existing section into THREE different sections (all straight sections)

You should split your new Section 3 into two further sections - one where the curb is on the right, and one where there is curbing on both sides (i.e. where the left curb begins and the right curb ends). Otherwise, your split makes sense to me.

Yes, you would use SFE to draw the edges of the asphalt for each section so that the asphalt section is 35-39 ft wide. SFE is a little tricky to learn, it’ll often do things you don’t intend, like creating a wall when you’re just trying to drag it around... but it just takes some practice to get used to.

Unsure where best to post so i do it here as this thread is active but was anyone aware the "paceA" line, the (1st number) # 2 or 3 is how many wide (per row) at the start?

Not sure what the right answer is, but I think if you compare Milwaukee and IMS you will have your answer.

Here's what the track.txt information file from the track building tutorial says:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PACEA (Pace Alignment)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This keyword has a variable number of parameters. The first parameter
specifies the number of columns the cars line up in for the pace lap. A
1 indicates single file, a 2 indicates two-abreast and a 3 would indicate
an Indiapolis style start. I have not tried more than these three numbers.

The second parameter indicates the position on the track where the pace lap
begins. A smaller number means the pace lap will start closer to the
location that either the green flag drops or to the start\finish line,
I'm not sure which. If you want a shorter pace lap, lower this value. If
you enter a number that is too large here however, the program will crash.

The next X parameters (with X being the value used for the first
parameter) specify the distance each column of cars is from the center of
the track, starting with the inside row, and ending with the outside row.
Following these parameters is the last parameter which always seems to be a
'0'. I am not sure what it is for.

guys- so I am at work, and I am trying to do some track editing in my free time. I have no access to install the n3 sandbox (because I don't have admin privileges on my work pc) but I can run dosbox. I was able to get SGE working by just typing "SGE TAMIAMI" in the dosbox terminal so I was able to bring up my tamiami track and do some more section splitting like I was working on a few months ago. Is it true I don't actually need the sandbox if I can launch the tools via command line in the dosbox terminal?

Good to see you back into track editing.

Yes, I never got comfortable with the Sandbox so I just use the separate tools contained in the package. In my opinion it gives you more control and visibility into what's going on, especially if you're going to use command line arguments and you can see any error messages in your Dosbox. After you figure out a workflow, you can create batch files to string together some of the tools like SGE -> SG2TRK -> TRK23D -> 3D23DO exactly how you want.

I think I have the SG file the way I want it for now, and I'm ready to start playing with SFE. Is there anything I should back-up incase I make mistakes in SFE? I'm sure I will. I backed up the SG file, do I need to back up the MRK?
