When I was there in 2009, I was right at the track- but at that time I hadn't "rediscovered jesus" (I mean- rediscovered ICR2) yet. I hurt myself in 2016 and got back into CART when I was watching video's on youtube which helped me get interest in ICR2, hence I found the forum in 2017. At that time in 2009 when I was there, I am actually embarrassed to say I didn't even know there was a track there at one time- if so I would have paid a lot more attention. (I hadn't ever seen races pre-1994 since I wasn't introduced to CART before 1994). I literally stayed at the hotel right before he hairpin at cobo hall (where the train track went across the tracks- where mario andretti and fittipaldi got together in 1989) I was presenting at the north american auto-show for a full week.
I uploaded this to my google drive. I don't know if it will be viewable, because sometimes these are analyzed and they may know it's from a broadcast. I apologize though- This is a 480p rip, but it is DVD quality.
I was thinking, I might have the GP2 (or maybe it was GP3?) conversion to ICR2 around somewhere.
Converting from GP2 isn't so hard either, only issue that the halfway product doesn't work well with the heightconversion. Still, I see a possible source of information.

Hold on, your talking about a MICROPROSE grand prix 2 formula 1 track converter to make Grand Prix 2 tracks work in ICR2?....
If so, I just pee'd a little. That is a game changer.....

Do we have any examples of a GP2 to ICR2 conversion on the forums or in the archive? Curious what kind of result we can get from it.

Not as much as a game changer as you would like, but yes, it is a conversion from Grand Prix 2 to ICR2.
The issue with the conversion is that it has way too much sections and some tracks are build with a massive amount of sections (usually that is the GP3 versions, GP2 is a bit more bare boned). ICR2 doesn't like too small sections.

I need to check my files. I have done a Brno version, but not sure if the Brno version on the board is GP2/3 or a GPL conversion.
Anyway, to give you an idea of the process.
You convert a GP2/3 track to GPL to N3 to ICR2
I say GP2/3 because the files don't differ that much.

Haha, that's a lot of intermediate steps to get to ICR2!
Have looked around in my files. I was certain I had a Detroit sg file somewhere, but couldn't find it. Might be because I cleaned up a bit over time.
This one I could find in my GPL files. It is the GTK file from GPL, which is the result of the conversion from GP2/3 to GPL. I would convert that after some fixing to a GPL trk file. From there you can use the trk2sg utility that is on the forum/archive here to convert from GPL to ICR2.
