trying to edit existing tracks

Yes that is most of my idea. I am driving around in Pavel's Houston now (it is the 2nd last race in my season, and I am almost complete with it) and I want to make the other tracks with objects and graphics just as good. Tamiami, Detroit Downtown, Denver 1990, Rio Oval - all of those tracks.

You would need the build files of the track. I'm sure Stig could send you those. Then it would be no problem provided you could get to grips with OPE Wink2

Sure, let me know which tracks you need files from and I can extract them and upload for you.

(Tjerk, I'm assuming its the .sg .trk .3d .3do files?)

Well I'm just trying to build every track with objects and ai from about 1986 to 2000. I have most of them. The ones that come to mind are Rio Roval, Detroit Downtown, Denver 1990 Downtown, Tamiami. I can't think of any others right now but that is just from memory.

Yes the SG, 3D and TRK files will be convenient to start with I'd say.

I've attached the basic build files for the tracks you mentioned.
To make a .3d file from them just use the command in N3 Sandbox: trk23d xxxxx (where xxx is the track name).

Remember when you've placed your objects and you're happy, you will then need to run the command 3d23do xxx to convert files into 3do files, then you compile the track file.
Try the track in Nascar2 to see if it works and if it looks right, if it does then you will then need to remove the "mron" section from the .3do files before you can convert the whole track to ICR2 spec.

I watched the 1990 Vancouver race on YouTube and noticed that the track was then quite different from Pavel's excellent 93 and 95 versions. So that's also one track we don't yet have. Vancouver 98 was also slightly different from that BoblogSan's also great 99 version. Then there are some Long Beach versions lacking too, and the Papyrus Detroit is not very accurate either. Toronto is better although not perfect.

Anyway, it's great that there's still someone planning to make new tracks for a very old game.

Google Earth can help as well. There is even a time travell option in it, although your track of choice has to be photographed multiple times then as well.
