Track Editing question
#1
I'm trying to edit a track for ICR2 following--(14) quickly rebuild a track--under the Track Creation Tutorials on this site. Step D says to convert the ICR2track.trk file to a .sg file with "trk2sg". The only thing I can find close to this is a utility called "trksg". Does anyone know if these 2 utilities are the same?

When I run trksg I get an error message that "GPL subfile could not be found"

If this is the utility I'm supposed to use, any ideas on how to fix the error?

If trksg won't work any idea where I can get "trk2sg"?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

trksg is found in the Sandbox track creating utility. The way I use the trksg utility is to edit the trksg.bat file so that the track name in it matches the track name you're trying to extract the .sg file from. For example Portland:
edit bat file so it says - trksg Portland. then save it as a batch file, then place both bat file and trksg in the Portland track folder then run the bat and it will generate the sg file

Hope this helps! :-)

trk2sg utility has problem converted just trk file. It's better to place it into track folder with track dat file. This utility will read dat and convert trk file from dat to sg.

I'm trying to launch SGE, but whatever I do N3 Sandbox just says "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument". Could someone explain me what I should do to get SGE running? I'm using Windows 10 64 bit.

You need SGE.EXE and DOS4GW.EXE from your N3 Sandbox folder. Put them together in a folder. Start DosBox, and go to this folder. Start SGE with the track name as argument, like "sge track".

I got the same error message, but I got the utility to work after applying the advice in this forum, as well as this message in the utility's readme file:

"-trksg is not fully functional because, like ins2ope, it doesn't work in dosbox but does respond to a command prompt. I cannot recreate its algorythm though. Also note, it prefers to reside in the same folder as the dat file, often not the same as the working directory. It also likes for the dat file to have one trk file within it and of the same name as the dat file. So, to address these items, you select the dat file of the track you want an sg for. N3 sandbox then places trksg.exe in that folder with a trksg.bat file. Double click on the trksg.bat file and you should get an sg file unless the program fails to convert (which it does occasionally). If anyone knows how to make visual basic 6 execute that batch file, please share."

I can also confirm that TRKSG.EXE is in fact what the Tutorial calls "TRK2SG". I struggled mightily to get this to work until I made the batch file and put all files into the same folder as the .DAT file.
