Denver 90/91 build thread

Do know that every time someone posts a video like that I share them with Foxman. Just to say if I can pull him back to ICR2 Wink2

Awesome! thanks! I am working on moving Nashville's trees to Denver tonight. I scaled some of them bigger and I think I went a little to big. I will work on it more tomorrow.

Update video with trees now added!  (thanks Checkpoint10 and the city of Nashville for allowing me to move them from Nashville to Denver!)

unfinished business
- drawthrough issue with tree approaching T11.
- drawthrough issues with trees in the "pit island" when driving through pitlane (I think I need to make a "center" section like pavel tried to school me on back when i was working on Tamiami.)
- tsds still aren't done
- no LPs yet (preseason only)
- track.txt needs some work... especially the dlat for the pit which is too far to the left and it bumps into the pit wall when you start a session
- I don't like the MIPs on the T12 inside corner building on the pit entrance.  I want to redo this one.

Here is a ZIP of my track directory so you guys can play it.  Good news is I have done a full 80 gallons of driving without any crashes.  I get full frame rate with no slow-downs using ECE 32 bit dosbox on my machine.

Track is too big to put on the site! I had to share from my google-drive: LINK REMOVED DUE TO UPDATED VERSION AVAILABLE SEE LATER IN THE THREAD

I just did 2 laps of Denver. There is an unreal amount of detail on here, what seems like textures on every single building. Driving through it really gives a really immersive feeling compared to watching it on the video. The capitol building looks beautiful with the dome. Elevation changes are a great touch and makes it feel authentic. The textures are great and I'm somewhat surprised that the Nashville palette worked so well.

Will there be brake markers? I don't recall seeing them as I am driving around.

A big congratulations to you for making such a great track. Corner by corner I was blown away by your work. I feel like I need to step it up on Detroit to match this level of quality. ;-)

I still have to do brake markers, street red/yellow/green lamps and I want to tweak a few things. AI comes first though. TSDs after LPs. I hope I can be done in a month. I am not yet at the point where I can make tracks with the "wisdome" as all of the more experienced track builders yet. I just felt it was not fair to be posting videos of it and not give you guys something to drive and test.

When I look at the polygons you put together in Detroit I feel I cut some corners here and there. Many of my buildings are blocks. Your shapes are much more involved. I wanted to save a few polygons because I wanted to make sure it didn't stutter on my machine or anyone else's. I think its a fun track to drive. Almost like a Monaco with such low speeds all the time (only 165 on the fastest straight). Gear ratios are really short and tight together. Suspension is soft to get better grip in the slow stuff. My best time is 1:22.9. Michael Andretti's pole time in 1991 was 1:25.9. It think it's pretty close. The real cars were a little slower in 1991 compared to 1995 when ICR2 was released so if they continued to drive at Denver we might see pole speeds like mine. One thing I did that is dumb is I made the same mistake you made at Nashville where I should have put the DLAT 0 line through the pits, because they are curved. I checked it with 30 cars and I think there is enough room, but it does get tighter in the 2 left bend sections of the pits, and wider in the right bend section. Oh well- as long as they can pull out OK it will be fine.

It means so much to me that you guys see I am getting better. I was so happy tonight when I read your comments. Thank you that made my night!

So I have some encouraging news.

I did AI with trafo, and even though my replays weren't the best- I was able to get good data pretty easy on this track from the replays. I was worried that it would be difficult and misbehave with trafo. It actually went pretty smooth. I need to do better replays with a tighter line, although I did improve my best time to 1m21.2 which I think is pretty fast. At this point I think the track layout should be final I just will need to improve the LPs and I think this gives me the green-light to spend some time on TSDs.

Has anyone else been driving this track? I would love setup tips and suggestions. Right now I run all the wing possible (18 front and back) with 35% suspension all of the way around. Tire pressures are between 32 and 34 psi.

I also did the camera files. They aren't perfect but they are pretty close to what the TV angles in real life were. I will post an update soon.

That's good news. Having more TSDs would give you more references around the track, too.

I'm no good at setups but if you come up with a good one for Denver then maybe it can transfer over to Detroit too - it's got similar types of corners, I think.

Glad to hear the cameras worked out.

I haven't tried Denver yet.
A setup, which gives at Denver a good handling, will give it probably at Detroit too. But Detroit has some long straights, where you can benefit from lower downforce, and except the first corner, there is no need for downforce. At Denver you reach 150mph only at one place, so maximum downforce could be the winning setup.

I had a few minutes to turn some more laps at Denver. Still not confident around the circuit - my best is only a 1:33. That wall at pit entry really sneaks up on you - hopefully there will be some road markings to guide me away from the wall.

Yes- I will put a long TSD to demark it better.  If you look at the intersection of google maps where the pit lane starts it is right in the middle of turn 7 and turn 12 which are part of the same intersection.  The turn-12 section of the track has the pit entrance on the west side of colfax and the track is the east facing side.  It was sure a cluster-f**c design pit entrance.  I did the best I could to make it like it really was.  The other problem here is that I had to make sure there was no warping between turn 7 and 12... so I could not really do it any other way.

Here is a snip of the youtube video. Michael Andretti has a flat tire and he is limping back to the pits. You can see the real entrance. The tire-barrier there is almost like an apex to the pits. https://youtu.be/S0cRE71gIRE?t=1983
