Hi,

DOSemu just worked for me on linux Mandriva (kbaka Mandrake). The only problem is that there is no sound. But I've got 31 FPS o a Celeron 766Mhz and icr2 still on the Win ME particion, Cool!

1)Download DOSemu from http://dosemu.sourceforge.net/
Since I am using Mandriva linux I have down loaded the version 1.4.0.0 in its rpm version.

2)I have installed the rpm package in Mandriva it just a double click on it and entering my root password.

3)run DOSemu from a terminal by simply typing:

dosemu

4)in DOSemu prompt go to the directory where linux has mounted your windows particion. In my case it is drive E: so i typed:
E:

5)in DOSemu pront use DOS comnand cd to go to the directory where icr2 is installed.

cd windows\c\sierra\cart\dos\cart

5)run icr2 in 640x480 mode. I've got 31 FPS in Mandriva with DOSemu 1.4.0.0

cart -h

6)I still have to figure it out how to include sound.
i don't know if i'm out of it totally or not...... going through several issues.

no joystick on my current pc or laptop (and no monitor for the pc at the moment), couldn't afford internet access anymore, and going through forclosure (gotta be out of the house in one more week) so my time and energies are focused elsewhere for now.

good news about the situation is that we are finally being forced to move to our land out in the forest, finally getting out of the city environment. long-term, it's a good thing.

maybe it would help if we start converting ICR2 to a 'millions' color pallet for those with the processors that can handle it.
Similar to what I've seen on the 'Smogbike' site I belive.

Can we move this Sim engine to a better graphic standard? It's the only ChampCar sim engine we have.

Just a thought... don't know how possible or worthwhile any of this might be.

;C
Hi all! I have been lurking since I stopped working on ICR2 but I missed this thread. Is good to see that there is still a group of you that are actively working on the old sim. Some of you may know that I got a new XP PC last May and I cannot make ICR2 work in it. I still have my files in CDs but it is not enjoyable to work on them since I cannot even view them.

Tony, I'm really sorry that the USAC carset got canned again. I don't even know if I have the tools installed in the new PC. I haven't seen any of the files in many months. I do remember having an OK model of one of the 1960s Eldorado Indy Pacecars (based on the original Camaro). I had some GPL USAC skins that could be used in the conversion. I don't remember what is the status of the USAC version of the ICR2 GPL shape. Good times... I wasn't even ready to give up on the old gal yet.
Kakukri:

Thanks to your clear explanations I decided I dared to try DOSemu today and it works a treat. Not with ICR2 itself yet mind [not tried it yet], only my editing tools. SGE, SFe, the build tools. No problems whatsoever Smiley I'm only worried about OPE atm but I am sure that will work too. Thanks man !

edit: tried ICR2 DOS and it works ! No sound yet but I did not have that on the DOS version in Win98 anymore either so not much difference Tongue
Hello folks!

Happy new year!

Ed!

I have some info for you:

I had also the same problem like you. New PC and no chance to use ICR2 properly.

With VDMS it didn't run.

Then I've downloaded "DosBox" (www.dosbox.com).

And this time it worked...

A bit slower - you'll see - but it IS running...

Bye
EdwRom Wrote:Some of you may know that I got a new XP PC last May and I cannot make ICR2 work in it.

I had that same problem on my Dell that I purchased in 2003 with XP.

I could never get the DOS version of ICR2 to run, until I replaced the on-board video with a video card.

Might be something worth trying.
With DosBox i managed to play icr1 on Win Me. I always wanted to see how icr1 was, but could never get it working on WinMe. on the other hand I could not install dosbox on Linux, but got 31 FPS on icr2 on linux with DOSemu.
I found my copy of the original Papyrus game, Indianapolis 500-The Simulation, but when I try to run it in XP using VDMS, it runs really slow, too slow to play. Sad
To Tjerk and Fastwalker (and anyone with DOSemu):

To get sound the most important thing is to run the ICR2 sound setup utility (forgot its name, and I am not in front of my home PC now) under DOSemu, and set it up according to the emulated sound card. If this does not help, you might want to play with the sound emulation settings in the DOSemu config file. I think by default it is set to Soundblaster, for me the default worked well (even without rerunning the setup utility, because it had the same default as VDMS). And do not forget to rerun sound setup after changes in DOSemu's sound config.

To Oli and other DosBox people:

A few years ago I was playing with different emulators, and found Qemu much faster than DosBox. (It had around 25 fps on an old 1.7 GHz Athlon, while DosBox had 1 or 2 fps.) It is a general emulator, thus you have to set it up with an old DOS or with Freedos, but you might find Qemu images containing Freedos on the Net. Or even better you might try Virtualbox, which is basically Qemu with a nice GUI, and it is also free for home users. Both Qemu and Virtualbox has Windows binaries as well as Linux ones. On the negative side, AFAIK it has no joystick support.
