Full Version: Question about TTYPE value in track TXT

Hi!

I was wondering about the TTYPE value in the track TXT file.

Stock and add-on tracks most often use the following value:
- TTYPE 1 for ovals using high downforce aero package
- TTYPE 3 for ovals using low downforce aero package
- TTYPE 4 for road course / street track

The only ICR2 tracks I know that uses TTYPE 2 are Miami-Homestead 1997 and Rio oval tracks, both of which use high downforce aero package.

The tutorial here (https://www.icr2.net/tutorials/files/track_txt.txt) says this value sets the speed of the pace lap and caution laps, but it is obviously not the case since the pacecar drives 80mph no matter what.
[Note: in NR2/NR3, the speed of the pace car is set by the PACEA line.]

In NR2/NR3, the TTYPE values are used this way (though there is no effect in the game):
- TTYPE 0 = short track (less than 1 mile)
- TTYPE 1 = mile oval
- TTYPE 2 = speedway (between 1 and 2 miles)
- TTYPE 3 = superspeedway (2 miles or larger)
- TTYPE 4 = road course
Original ICR2 tracks seem to use the same logic, but add-on tracks don't (Richmond uses TTYPE 1 instead of 0 ; 1.5-mile tracks use TTYPE 3 instead of 2)

So, beside the choice of which aero package (high or low downforce) is shown on the carshape, does the TTYPE line have another effect in ICR2?
I think It affects yellows.  On an oval, if you spin and face backwards - a yellow comes out.  On a road course- this will not do this.
I think it also affects which method of timing you get on your pit driveby thing.  Time or average speed.

Homestead (square version and round version) along with Rio I believe are fanmade tracks.  I know Rio was made by SK, while square homestead I believe was Tjerk.  I don't know about round homestead.  The authors could have just used an different value.

Sometimes you might want to make the cars look like speedway trim- say if you wanted to simulate late 90's oval look, or if the oval had speeds so fast you thought speedway trim was appropriate.

There are things in the track.txt that were not implemented or not implemented fully. Like Rain still exists. I think we figured out recently that some of the tire stuff isn't real either. Hell- for 30 years I have wondered what SCTNS is.

Best thing is to do testing and teach us what you learn. AI may be able to use GHIDRA to tell us some things.
