Greetings,
I was send here from an user of simcyberracing forum.

After having a really crappy problem that killed my 3200+ mainboard (causing me lose the Italian LFS S2 champ argh Hanged ) , i was stuck with an old Pentium 133 with 128mb of ram and a rendition v1000 card toghether with a 3dfx voodoo1 (orchid righteous) on win95a.

Is about some months that i am litterally collecting old sims (now should be more then 30, i will post a list later Grin3), so i wanted to try some on this old machine, and i decided to try ICR2 version.

I readed that there was a 3d accelerated version for rendition cards, and i have found a rendition patch on 3dgamers.com, in the section related icr2

My version of ICR2 is windy 1996 usa one, the one with dos win and mac version in the same cd.

The problem is that i can not make the game start with the patch.
Dos and windy run well (except that windy has a much better graphic, maybe svga instead of dos vga), but with rendition patch the game stuck on the dos starting screen.

After searching for a while on the net, on eagle woman website i found out that there is another release of icr2 called cart racing, and only the us cart racing version is 3d rendition accelerated. On B's track projects site i discovered that the rendition track patches that he made run only on cart racing rendition accelerated version.

Now, that's the question:
Is the rendition patch that i found on 3d gamers here
http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/i...r2rend.txt

usefull for patching my game on a 3d version or i need a cart racing rendition accelerated version?
If is usefull, how can i make it work?
If is not, where i can find cart racing usa version?

Some months ago i had the opportunity of buying cart racing on ebay, but didn't do that because i thought that was the same of icr2 :/

Need help! Cry

Noone here?
Enough people here, only probably the people with Rendition cards weren't. Not sure who could help you with this though.
I don't think anyone at this forum is using the rendition version of ICR2, Hardrockracer used to do the rendition related tracks and carset stuff but I have not seen him for a long time.

However, I have run the rendition version of ICR2 myself. What I had to do was take the 1.0.0 DOS version from my CD, patch it up to the latest DOS version patch from Papy which I think is 1.0.2 and then apply the rendition patch to it. If you download the rendition patch there are detailed instructions on how to use it. Make sure to follow those instructions and you should be able to get it to work. If the patch has been installed and the program itself will not run, check to see if there are any details about your specific graphics card, I know I had to download yet another fix because I had a certain type of Rendition card. But you say you have a V1000 card which I think was the card it was designed for, the rendition patched version was even bundled with those cards and sold as one package.

Also, please note that there were two versions of CART Racing as well, the normal one called Cart Racing and the other one called All-American Sports Series: CART Racing. The first one had rendition support, the second one had not, this is what SRC said about the All-American Sports Series version:

"This release was for Sierra Sports' low-budget line of games. This one is pretty much the original ICR2 except that it only has Win95 executables. In spite of what it says on the box, it does not have Rendition support."

So the version you have seen on eBay may or may not have had rendition support Smiley

One final note about the difference in graphics for the DOS and Windows versions, they both have a maximum of 640x480 [SVGA] but you have to enable that resolution in the DOS version by putting -h as a parameter. You can make a .bat file that just says

indycar.exe -h

and that will make it start in high resolution mode.
Thanks for answering Happy2

I have readed about the 2 versions of cart (in reality are 3, but 2 have the same contents, with just different package) on eagle woman rsc website.
It has scans of the boxes too.

About the rendition patch, on what i have understood, does not modify icr2 so heavily that it become like icr2 version bundled with v1000 cards, because it modify the exe only, and not the tracks like in cart or icr2rend.

But it should start at least.
I'm thinking of deleting icr2 and reinstall it again, maybe i have messed up some file with univbe driver installer included with icr2dos and that caused some conflict with the rendition patch.

I asked especially because i have readed on some old sites that my v1000 version, creative 3d blaster pci, did have bios problems that caused incompatibilities with certain "rendition ready" dos based games ( with vQuake for example, at least with some bios version), but I was unable to find any referer to the bios version number incriminated for checking if my card was ok or not, so i hoped that someone here could have known something more.

I will try reinstallation and finding icr2/cart rendition ready cd on the net Happy

P.S: i have seen in the link section of that site that there is an online championship with ICR2.
ICR2 has multiplayer? wasn't stuck on 1v1 with null modem and direct connection?
it has 2 person multi-player with direct connection through modem or null modem. the IIRS is an off-line series, not on-line.
As anyone of you tryied to use icr2 with a nullmodem cable emulator on internet?
No but I would LOVE to know how that is done Smiley
Yesterday i have searched on google null modem cable emulation and i have found many programs that claim to be able to emulate a null modem connection on 2 remote pc connected to internet with tcp/ip.

It should be possible, because similar things are done by kali and dosbox for ipx connection, but i hadn't the opportunity of testing it, because i dont have the second player Grin3

However one of the programs that i have downloaded is called "Virtual Modem". I have found it on many google links, so, maybe it is good for trying
Hey thank you for that info ! I would gladly like to try that sometimes although I have yet to find a piece of null modem software that is free AND will work on Windows 98 SE. But from how you have explained this and from what I have read so far on some of the pages that Google kindly supplied to me on the subject, this should work ! I do wonder how the multiplay thinks about connecting different versions of the game ?
