Is it okay if I make a statement regarding this? I was never really offended by the split, being as I?m no history junkie about AOWR even though I know some things about the split. I didn?t notice the anger and the feuding that went along with it. All I saw from my perspective was just two Indycar series that seemed fun to watch. To me it was double the series, double the types of cool cars and tracks, double the fun! So personally, I have nothing against Tony George.

I think its great to see this happen as long as manufacture competition returns. I stopped watching IRL after 2005 because it became essentially a one make series. I gave up on champ car for the most part back in 2000 when

1.They got rid of the Valvoline car (I loved that car and still do!)

2. Target Chip Ganassi Racing went from Reynard Hondas to Lola Toyotas for 2000. (Nothing against Lola or Toyota, I just liked the team when they used Reynard Hondas.)

The cars are pretty much why I watch racing in the first place. Especially seeing more that one make (preferably three but at least more that one.) That?s why I?ll be really getting back into open wheel racing in America when more manufactures, chassis and engine, get involved.

BTW, I find it quite fascinating (and very cool!) that we have a few people who know quite a few things about AOWR as well as into ICR2 in this forum even though they are from Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belarus (I think Pavel is from Belarus telling from his .by extension on his email address on some of his readmes, correct me if I'm wrong.) It really shows how popular AOWR is around the world.
The press conference didn't bring much news or did I miss anything? Surfers and Edmonton are being negotiated and the rest is essentially told to deal with it. Let's hope we have a 2009 schedule somewhere in August. That would be nice.
fallout from the buyout-
forsythe will participate in the indy racing league.

...for one race only. long beach. they are going with james hinchcliffe and david martinez and as soon as the checkered flag drops will cease to be in existance in the top level open wheel series. the atlantics team will continue.

no link, but i have a presser from a webforum that i'll bet many would find questionable. but the news itself is legit.
FCR's gone after LBGP and PT is a free agent.

has anyone heard anything regarding plans for tire, chassis, or motor competition?
It's a safe bet we'll have Dallara/Honda/Firestone for 2008 and 2009.
TG says the IRL will change its formula for 2010.

IMO, they have until the end of this season to figure out what direction they want to go with the new technical specs.

2009 should be devoted to development, testing and production of the new formula so that the teams can start working with the new specs the day after the 2009 season ends.

If someone was going to make a case for the turbos, now's the time to start lobbying.

Quote:But for cars, Ford plans to boost fuel economy two ways. It will use smaller engines loaded with technology, such as a turbocharger and gasoline direct injection, and offer more models with an optional gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain.

"We have done a lot of assessment from a customer perspective, looking at what diesel offers in terms of fuel economy and performance versus cost," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's product development boss. "At this point in time, we would say that GTDI (gasoline turbocharged direct injection) seems to be the better alternative."

IMO, Indycar racing could be a good technical proving ground for GTDI technology....and Cosworth has lots of experience with turbo charged engines...and Ford used to own Cosworth.....
