With great pleasure I present to you, the Week Of The GPL Conversions !

Every day of this week I will be uploading a new or updated GPL converted track to the site. This means that some new tracks will be converted from GPL to ICR2 and some existing tracks will get objects added to them.
Sunday

I start today with one of the first GPL tracks I tried to convert back in the day, Snetterton. I never got it to work then, it was not until we were able to start using the N3 Sandbox that this became a possibility for the ICR2 community. Still it took a lot of time before we found out how to do it properly, some new routines had to be learnt and some new tools were written [enter Ton Fastwalker]. But when we were doing this I kind of forgot about the Snetterton track. I have converted or updated a lot of other GPL tracks until now and thought it appropriate to start this Week Of The GPL Conversions with this track that has been waiting for so long now.

Having said that, this was probably one of the worst tracks to start with back then, so I realize now. If I had managed to convert it then I would have probably left it at one track because this track did not convert well. Just about ALL of the objects either only show up for a little bit [grandstands with only roofs for example !] and others don't even show up at all ! So I had to replace just about all of them with objects from other tracks to make the track look better. It still has its glitches though. Nevertheless, enjoy !

of course you can go to the page via the usual way as well.

While updating the track I noticed that the old version of Snett was uploaded to CRHQ exactly one year ago. This is mere coincidence Grin3

See you tomorrow for another GPL track !
hmmmm I'll bet these would compliment that nice Lamborghini carset we recently got.

btw, last I checked you were about 8 hours ahead of me, not 10 days behind. LOL Check the front page.

Cool! This is going to be a great week!
Monday

I am already messing with my own format today. After Snetterton I realized that a problem on one of my scratchbuilt tracks was caused by using the objects from Snetterton to fill up that track. So I also relaced those objects with some new working ones from other tracks. Then I made some AI and track screens and the track is now as finished as I could stomach myself to make it.

So what is that track ? Brooklands ! The famous and now partly demolished oval track in Surrey, England. This is not technically a GPL conversion but I did use the GPL beta to base my own track on and I used GPL track objects. So I still think it fits in nicely in the Week Of The GPL Conversions.

There is a bug in the track that I as not able to solve. I think it is caused by the track being so wide and the AI not liking that. When you race all is well but whenever the AI try to do ANYTHING pit related weird things start happening. So I set the race distance pretty short [enough to get to the end on one tank of fuel] and the AI don't pit either during the race. Check out the included readme file for more information.

Have fun, see you tomorrow !

With the great oval Brooklands still fresh in our memory it's time to look at another great European track that hosted oval races in the early and mid 1900's. I am talking about Monza of course. There is a GPL version of the track called Monza10k so I tried converting that one to ICR2. But although technically I think the track could work, I can't do it in such little time. Work would be needed on the GPL track's .trk to make it more suitable for conversion. So that will be tried another time perhaps.

But I was still in a Monza mood so decided to just add objects to the normal GPL conversion instead. And that worked out really well. It has very high detail, there are a lot of objects in this track. So it might be a bit intensive on the slower machines out there.

Have fun, see you tomorrow for another one of those legendary Legends tracks.
Thanks for these tracks! I was hoping that Monza was one of the tracks uploaded this week. I have to see this baby!

I took a spin at Brooklands yesterday and you are right about the AI! I saw a car exiting pit lane by climbing the hill among other strange behaviors. Maybe next week should be "post your weird Brooklands replays week". One thing that I like about it is that you can drive outside of the track proper similar to what is possible on the Corby track.

Looking forward to Wednesday's track. Thanks, again.
Thanks for these Tjerk! Can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve.
We love Crhqvp

PS This is a case of shameless site selfpromotion, I admit it Grin
